Euro pricing traps in cloud billing

AWS sets its prices in US dollars and invoices in dollars by default, so an Irish company paying in euro can see its bill move with the exchange rate even when usage stays flat. Set the billing currency deliberately and budget for the gap.

Honest Consultancy. Updated

Can we pay AWS in euro?

Yes, for accounts billed by AWS EMEA SARL. You choose the currency in the Billing console payment preferences, and since March 2025 you can set it per payment profile.

The underlying price is still set in dollars and converted at the exchange rate AWS applies, so paying in euro changes the currency of the invoice, not the price list.

Why does our euro bill change when usage does not?

Because the dollar price is converted at a different rate each period. A budget set in euro and a cost report in dollars will disagree.

Set AWS Budgets and cost reports in the same currency your finance team plans in, and agree which rate you use for forecasts.

Do Savings Plans and Reserved Instances lock in a euro price?

No. AWS Savings Plans commit you to a spend per hour in US dollars, so the euro cost of the commitment still moves with the exchange rate.

Size commitments from steady usage only. A commitment you cannot use is lost money in any currency.

What about Azure?

Azure bills in the currency of your billing account or agreement. Check prices in euro in the Azure pricing calculator, and watch for Microsoft's periodic local-currency price adjustments.
